IBEDC Tariff Bands 2026: What Ibadan Electricity Costs Per Unit in Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Kwara
IBEDC's official Band A–E rates for 2026, what a ₦10,000 recharge buys on each band, and why Ibadan DisCo is one of the dearest in Nigeria on Bands B and C but one of the cheapest on D and E.
Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, or IBEDC, supplies Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Kwara, plus parts of Niger, Ekiti and Kogi. It calls itself the largest distribution company in Nigeria.
Like every NERC-regulated DisCo, it charges ₦209.50 a unit on Band A. Below Band A, though, IBEDC's prices are unusual. On Bands B and C it's one of the most expensive DisCos in the country. On Bands D and E it's one of the cheapest. Which side you're on depends entirely on your band.
The short answer
- Band A is ₦209.50 per unit (kWh), the same as every other NERC-regulated DisCo.
- IBEDC's other bands for homes and small shops: Band B ₦67.25, Band C ₦56.40, Band D ₦32.44, Band E ₦32.26.
- On Band C, only one DisCo in Nigeria charges more than IBEDC (BEDC, in Benin). On Band B, only two do.
- On Bands D and E, IBEDC is the third cheapest of the 11 NERC-regulated DisCos.
- ₦10,000 buys about 47.7 units on Band A, about 177 units on Band C and about 308 units on Band D.
- If you use 50 units or less in a whole month, you pay a flat ₦4 per unit on all of it, whatever your band.
These rates are in IBEDC's own published Revised Service Based Tariff sheet, and they match NERC's tariff order for IBEDC exactly.
The full IBEDC band table
| Band | Minimum supply IBEDC promises | Price per unit (₦/kWh) |
|---|---|---|
| A | 20 hours a day | 209.50 |
| B | 16 hours a day | 67.25 |
| C | 12 hours a day | 56.40 |
| D | 8 hours a day | 32.44 |
| E | 4 hours a day | 32.26 |
| Lifeline | 50 units a month or less | 4.00 |
These are the "Non-MD" rates, the ones for homes and ordinary shops. IBEDC's sheet also lists rates for bigger commercial and industrial customers on "maximum demand" meters (MD1 and MD2). If you're a household, you can ignore those.
What a ₦10,000 recharge buys on IBEDC
On a prepaid meter, the number most people care about is how many units a recharge gets them.
- Band A: ₦10,000 ÷ ₦209.50 ≈ 47.7 units
- Band B: ₦10,000 ÷ ₦67.25 ≈ 148.7 units
- Band C: ₦10,000 ÷ ₦56.40 ≈ 177.3 units
- Band D: ₦10,000 ÷ ₦32.44 ≈ 308.3 units
- Band E: ₦10,000 ÷ ₦32.26 ≈ 310.0 units
The same ₦10,000 buys about 6.5 times more units on Band D than on Band A. What you're really paying for is the hours of light you're promised, not just the units.
How IBEDC compares with the rest of Nigeria
Here's where IBEDC sits among the 11 NERC-regulated DisCos on each band, from cheapest (1st) to dearest:
| Band | IBEDC rate | IBEDC's position | Cheapest DisCo | Dearest DisCo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B | ₦67.25 | 9th of 11 | EKEDC (Eko), ₦61.00 | PHED (Port Harcourt), ₦68.96 |
| C | ₦56.40 | 10th of 11 | Ikeja Electric, ₦45.80 | BEDC (Benin), ₦56.91 |
| D | ₦32.44 | 3rd of 11 | Ikeja Electric, ₦31.24 | YEDC (Yola), ₦50.01 |
| E | ₦32.26 | 3rd of 10 | Ikeja Electric, ₦31.24 | BEDC (Benin), ₦41.21 |
Only 10 DisCos are ranked on Band E because NERC's current order for Yola doesn't publish a Band E rate.
Band C is where the gap shows most. The same 200 units a month cost:
- ₦11,280 on IBEDC
- ₦9,160 on Ikeja Electric
That's ₦2,120 a month, or ₦25,440 a year, for the same electricity on the same band.
If you live in Ogun: check which DisCo you're actually on
Most of Ogun State is IBEDC territory, but not all of it. Agbara, on the Lagos border, is served by Eko Electricity (EKEDC) instead. On the same 200 units a month, the difference depends on your band:
| Band | IBEDC | EKEDC | Who's cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | ₦41,900 | ₦41,900 | same |
| B | ₦13,450 | ₦12,200 | EKEDC, by ₦1,250 |
| C | ₦11,280 | ₦9,706 | EKEDC, by ₦1,574 |
| D | ₦6,488 | ₦6,496 | IBEDC, by ₦8 |
| E | ₦6,452 | ₦6,488 | IBEDC, by ₦36 |
The company name on your bill or recharge receipt tells you which one you're on. Our EKEDC tariff guide has Eko's full rates.
None of these gaps come close to the jump between bands. On IBEDC, 200 units cost ₦41,900 on Band A and ₦13,450 on Band B. The band you're on matters far more than which DisCo you're on.

The 50-unit rule that can save small users a lot
If your total use for the month is 50 units or less, you pay the lifeline rate of ₦4 a unit on all of it, not just the first 50. So 50 units cost ₦200 in total.
Go one unit over and the whole month is charged at your band rate. On IBEDC Band C, 51 units cost about ₦2,876. On Band A they cost about ₦10,685. If you're a very light user, a single shop or a room that's empty most of the month, it's worth knowing where that line is.
Why your price didn't change when NERC "released a new order"
NERC publishes a new tariff order for each DisCo, IBEDC included, roughly every month. Most of them don't change what you pay. They mostly rebalance subsidy and remittance sums between the DisCo and the federal government. That's money moving between institutions, not a new price on your meter.
Band A has been ₦209.50 since July 2024, and Bands B to E haven't moved since December 2022. IBEDC's current tariff sheet is dated July 2024 and carries the same numbers. Unless IBEDC tells you directly that your rate has changed, the table above is what you should be paying.
If you're on Band A and didn't get the hours
Your band depends on the feeder line that supplies your street, not on your choice. It's printed on your bill or recharge receipt.
IBEDC has run a NERC-approved compensation scheme for eligible Band A prepaid customers who lost supply between February and March 2026, which IBEDC says was caused by gas shortages. You can check whether your meter qualifies by entering your meter number on IBEDC's compensation token page. If you were on Band A in those months, it takes a minute to check.
IBEDC also publishes a list of Band A feeders it has downgraded on its downgraded feeders page. If your feeder has been moved down a band, you should be paying the lower band's rate. A Band A customer billed ₦209.50 while getting Band C hours is paying about 3.7 times the right price per unit (₦209.50 against ₦56.40).
If you complain about your band, keep your own daily record of the hours you actually get light. A written log is the best evidence you'll have if you need to take it further.
IBEDC's tariff figures come from NERC's Multi-Year Tariff Order for IBEDC and match IBEDC's own Revised Service Based Tariff sheet (ibedc.com/tarrif-info, dated July 2024). Coverage areas, the compensation scheme and the downgraded-feeders list are from ibedc.com. Other DisCos' rates come from NERC's tariff orders for each company. Figures checked as of October 2026. Tariffs are set by regulatory order and can change, so check against your own bill or receipt if a figure looks out of date. This article is general information, not financial advice.
